Japanese$$

Overpriced eateries with their cheesy, souvenir-store ambience can seem inescapable in a touristy area like The Rocks, but luckily, gems can still be found. Disappear down a quiet cobblestone passage off Argyle Street and you'll find a cute, bento-sized Japanese restaurant that will leave you with a very reasonable bill. In fact, there are lunchbox specials during the day and, for diners that turn up at 6-7pm, a free drink will kickstart their meal. Handmade gyoza is crisp yet lushly packed with flavour; agedashi tofu will offer restorative comfort and vinegared fried chicken is a guilty delight.
