Nakashima

Japanese$$

This casual little post up a cobbled alley in The Rocks is a pleasing escape from the touristy bustle. Beef tataki is rare and thinly sliced, a mere sear away from being carpaccio, and is drizzled in a sweet and tart ponzu. But an even better order is the vinegared fried chicken, super crisp exterior encasing nobbly tender poultry pieces, with Kewpie mayo for dipping. At lunch go for the bento boxes, when a choice of grilled eel, tempura, beef teriyaki or grilled salmon will come with a little prawn spring roll and miso, sashimi and a salad, or beancurd, miso and spinach. Bookings recommended.
