Japanese$$

Despite its prime location next to QVB, this tiny underground diner offers Japanese favourites at good prices and an interior that could do with a bit of TLC. That doesn't mean they skimp on the good stuff, because their salmon avocado roll is bursting with thick slabs of silky salmon. The corporate crowd packs in midweek for their juicy karaage and yakiniku beef, while female foodies tuck into sashimi lunch sets on their weekend shopping pit stop. The neatly presented dinner box ($25) is great value but it's worth branching out and trying the sukiyaki and yosenabe hotpots for two.
