New Day Rising

Like a chap who cuts his dreads but leaves the Occupy sticker on his bike, New Day has a whiff of northside-hippie about it, from the hand-lettered menus to the wildflowers on every table. It's more kitchen than cafe, but if you're happy to yak with the barista while they whip up a chewy bagel with avo, Persian feta and house-made tomato relish, it's a petite, charming spot. Flip through a diverse record collection and grab a simple, tasty coffee made on a spunky Synesso, or drop crumbs of genuinely good home-made lumberjack cake all over their copy of Inpress.
