New Tattersalls Hotel

14/20

Contemporary$$

Early on a Friday evening in the Tatts Hotel feels a lot like a friend's place: relaxed and welcoming. Understated decor adds to the familiar vibe. Clearly distinguishing hotel from home, though, is the folksy live music duo, the bar and the waitstaff. Conversation at our table dies off with the arrival of the rump steak with chips, salad, veal jus and sauteed wild mushrooms, and the pan-seared gnocchi with oven-dried tomato, rocket, red capsicum essence and truffled mascarpone. The marinated strawberries with vanilla mascarpone, fluorescent raspberry foam and chocolate curls is hard on the eye but, like the mains, very easy on the palate.
