Contemporary

Outgrowing its teens, Nineteen Squares has expanded into the shop next door. But it's still pint-sized, with a menu that sensibly sticks to a few popular standards. Breakfast could be cinnamon-spiced rhubarb porridge, a ham and gruyere toastie, or a 'one-pot wonder' - baked eggs in a terracotta pot, rich with feta and a tart sugo, with your choice of chorizo or grilled vegetables. For lunch, there's a soup and a salad of the day, with fudge or Portuguese tarts for afters. Outside, you'll sit on stools upholstered with coffee-bean sacks; inside, the space is charmed up with a wall of souvenir spoons and window seats perfect for dog-watching.
