Seasoned ex-Sydney restaurateur Marino Maioli and award winning chef Craig McCabe are a formidable team; the former has designed an inviting space with tall glass stackers opening to a lovely stretch of riverside lawn, while the latter produces an Italian-inspired menu that complements the ambience perfectly. Settle in for a languid lunch with an entree of pickled cherries with a dense pork and prosciutto terrine served with slices of house-made long-fermented sourdough swiped with fruity olive oil. A rich ragu with fresh tomato and pancetta, topped with shaved truffled pecorino, generously dresses light potato gnocchi, while the sour-sweet notes of agrodolce boost a fritti misti of semolina-dusted soft shell crab, plump scallops, queen fish, prawns and baby calamari. The bitter crunch of a frisee and witlof salad garnish, work well with prawn arancini and a salt fish croquette. Breaking the light toffee top on the lemon tart reveals a velvety interior - its sharp zestiness offset by dollops of sweet Italian meringue.
