North Cafeteria

With its pretty wrought-iron veranda, hand-inked Sadie Chandler mural and calming Scandinavian fitout, North looks demure enough. But a beast lurks within. Otherwise known as the reuben, it comes as an open sandwich with slabs of tender corned beef, Swiss cheese, lashings of dill mayo and tangles of piquant sauerkraut. Breakfasts are inspiring: gutsy huevos rancheros (black beans, chorizo, tomato salsa, avocado and fried eggs on fresh tortillas), or more genteel 'North' beans, with fresh herbs and silverbeet on rye, are two options. Coffee is North's forte - rich and chocolatey.
