Japanese

Oiden translates to ‘please come’, but such a polite request is hardly necessary when the food on offer is so cheap and satisfying. This sister restaurant and next-door neighbour to Mappen Noodle Bar keeps the focus on rice. Punters queue for a bowl with their choice of topping – from a simple sweet curry sauce to seafood, or a selection of sautéed and pickled vegies. Add chilli sauce to stewed beef with cheese for a sure-fire hangover cure. Add some tidbits from the self-serve buffet such as takoyaki, octopus balls topped with shaved bonito, and a bowl of miso. Bargain.
