Oscar W's Wharfside

Good Food hat15/20

Contemporary$$$

This is a stylishly renovated timber and corrugated-iron restaurant perched high on a bend of the Murray River in Echuca's historic wharf precinct. It's where cockatoos and paddle-steamers accompany a tasty lunch or memorable dinner. Chef Ludovic Baulacky sources many of his supplies from within a 250km radius. free-range chicken from Milawa, kangaroo from the Mallee, best potatoes from Wagga, venison and wild boar from the Murray Darling, aiming for flavours that are 'unique but not weird'. Start with a glass of sparkling Yarrabank, tasty pork and veal rillettes, or duck neck sausage with vincotto and truffle oil before moving on to Murray cod beautifully realised with candied chilli, ponzu dressing and fennel salad. Or choose roo cooked on the blazing red-gum grill, accompanied by garlic crostini, onion marmalade, parsnip and beetroot. A little sweet something to finish? Be tempted by lamingtons and Bundy-spiked chocolate truffles.
