Contemporary

It's hard to have many worldly cares when you're on the deck of Oskars, with a glass of something cold in hand, and one of the best ocean views on the coast. Fortunately, the attentive service and smart fare - mostly seafood with an Asian twist - serves only to enhance that relaxed, holiday feeling. A starter of plump, opaque scallops atop a velvety-sweet carrot puree are given the perfect one-two flavour punch with fat, grilled chorizo slices. Deep-fried 'Oskar' prawns highlight the best of Queensland: all chewy, crunchy and golden in a coating of shredded coconut and crushed macadamia with a fruity mayonnaise. A beautifully cooked snapper fillet resting atop crunchy dill-scattered kipflers comes with a moreish aioli. A tempura coating is a little heavy for bug tails but works a treat with accompanying prawns; all lifted by a fresh little beanshoot salad. Yes, it's a little trek to the toilets outside, but you won't mind coming back to an indulgent chocolate platter including a smooth ganache-filled cigar.
