Our Kitchen Table

Modern Australian$$

With its picket fence and sunny courtyard, this sweet-natured cafe would look at home in the pages of Country Style. Breakfasts are strong on balanced flavours and textures, such as brioche French toast with roasted rhubarb and strawberries and toasted almond slivers, and potato latkes (hotcakes) with spinach, a whorl of smoked salmon and creme fraiche. Kids get their own menu but may find it hard to look beyond the lolly-encrusted cupcakes and giant lamingtons. Racks display house-made preserves and sauces, and fridges hold ready-to-heat meals: don an apron, add grubby handprints and you can pretend you've been slaving for hours.
