Pho 236

Vietnamese

With its basic setting and fluoro lighting, you'd be excused for not immediately being able to see the appeal of Pho 236. The appeal is there, though, and the power of BYO combined with hearty and seriously affordable Vietnamese ensure the little dining area is almost always busy. The menu is comfortably predictable; you can depend on getting fresh rice-paper rolls and flavoursome pho, Vietnam's clear-broth noodle soup. Like the decor, service could also win a no-frills award, but somehow that feels OK here. It's cheap and cheerful, and it's good to know that after finishing crisp chicken with tomato rice, you'll still have enough cash for gelato just down the road at Gelatomassi.
