Open all day every day, this reasonably priced and ever-reliable little South Bank gem has a huge following. Service is chilled and the decor - wood-slatted walls and white tables and chairs - has stood the test of time. French classics underpin the menu with the odd twist - smoked salmon mousse is served with a dill and cornichon dressing and roasted potatoes instead of the obligatory baguette - but sometimes the original doesn't need updating. Roasted loin of veal is still best with a properly made jus and cafe de Paris butter, and braised duck legs are always a natural match for du Puy lentils. In addition to mains, there is a mid section of 'light meals' for smaller appetites. Staff are well versed in the largely French wine list, and happy to make suggestions. A clipped dessert menu sticks mainly to the classics, but a smooth, spicy pumpkin pie with orange salsa with a chocolate crumble on the side is a welcome culture mash-up.
