Pizzeria E Cucina

Italian$$

Some think of Newport as a beach too far from the city's culinary centres, but this outstanding Italian gives locals the best of both worlds. The large room is packed out most nights with people sharing big serves of pasta - from whole egg garganelli with prosciutto, peas, potato and truffle cream to gnocchi with gorgonzola and fontina sauce scattered with walnuts - and terrific pizza. It's chewy, crisp, simple, with proper fior di latte or buffalo mozzarella. Prices test the Everyday Eats budget, but share and you'll get your fill. Add a young Debbie Harry-lookalike waitress (knowledgably stating the origin of the 'ocky' in an excellent pan-fried octopus, garlic and rocket starter) and what's not to love?
