Pondok Buyung

Indonesian

'Murah meriah' (cheap and cheerful) is the name of the game at this unsophisticated little Indo diner. The smiling ladies behind the counter provide the cheer, while the value comes in the form of more than 20 different dishes served Sumatran nasi padang style. Safe favourites such as beef rendang sit alongside a more adventurous lamb's brain curry. A vast vegetarian range includes a mild, smooth curry made with young jackfruit, a spicy sambal eggplant dish, deep-fried tempeh (fermented soybean cake) in sambal and sweet soy sauce and a succulent daun singkong (spinach in coconut milk). Best to go at midday, when the food is freshest.
