Puntino Trattoria

Italian$$

The red-and-white checked tablecloth, Tony’s thick accent and his mum’s bouncy pasta bring Italy to Woolloomooloo. Start with a selection from the mozzarella bar, plus Sicilian-style caponata (the gently stewed casserole of eggplant and pine nuts is generous enough to be a main, and a steal at $6). Next is wood-fired pizza done Neapolitan style with smoky, thin crusts that rival the stalwarts, topped with creamy burrata and fiery ’nduja pork paste, perhaps. Mum’s gnocchi is great, but better still is her chilli and breadcrumb-coated ferrietti pasta lifted by garlic and anchovies. Party on and enjoy summer nights in the courtyard at the back.
