You won't see Quaff's genteel patrons queuing for a table, grazing from share plates then rushing to the next hot spot. Here in the heart of Toorak Village it's a conservative crowd, enjoying a reserved table and a distinct entree-main-dessert rhythm. Padded chairs, starched white tablecloths and huge cantilevered windows add to the comfortable, swanky vibe. The menu looks to Europe and Asia. For starters, Asian spiced pork belly is well-matched with sweetened soy sauce and zingy red cabbage salad, although perhaps falling short of ideal crackling crispness. A main of peppered kangaroo fillet is a generous protein hit. six slices served rare with port jus, beetroot tapenade and crisp sweet potato chips. Duck breast is another staple, perhaps with a stir-fry of abalone mushrooms and shredded duck leg. Souffle is popular; a delicate orange version, accompanied by hazelnut ice-cream, is excellent.
