Quan 88

Asian

This is the kind of casual, busy, happily noisy Asian restaurant where diners unashamedly order by the number. So, number 17, spicy quails, is a good place to start. If quail can ever look a generous serve, this does. Doused in chilli, soy and oyster sauces, red wine and garlic, it's deep-fried upon order, arriving dark, sticky, spicy and delicious. Egg noodle soup with roast duck is excellent value, a thoroughly satisfying meal with loads of duck, noodles and vegetables. There are a few misses among the hits, for example the steamed salmon dish may arrive slightly overcooked, but its wonderful ginger aroma begs forgiveness.
