Reuben Hills

Cafe$$

Occasionally you get lucky and simply walk in, but more often than not you’ll wait. The space itself makes patience worthwhile; long and narrow, its high ceilings, exposed brick cut-outs and sweeping lines are punctuated by a peacock blue-tiled table and huge vase of flowers. Coffee is roasted upstairs and ably brewed downstairs. The short menu has a strong American accent: think ‘Really f***ing great Fried Chicken’ and a swell ‘NOT reuben’ sandwich of wagyu salt brisket and pickled slaw. Food sometimes falters (flavour was MIA in a crab taco with young mango, habanero and roasted coconut), but the salted caramel milkshake never does.
