Contemporary

Rogue's recent arrival is like a breath of fresh air on this otherwise drab industrial Newstead street. But for the cheery bright-green strip of astro turf with outdoor furniture out front, it might easily be overlooked. It's refreshingly void of pomp or circumstance; much like the simple, understated lines of its contemporary-chic interior, the menu is very accessible. Plump, beautifully seared scallops come with the fresh crunch of sweet-corn salsa, finished with vibrant, lemony pesto. Spatchcock is restrained and golden, pan-fried; its classic garlic-rosemary seasoning mingling happily with a rustic Mediterranean salad scattered with pieces of crunchy ciabatta. Desserts, too, tend more towards comfort food than cutting edge with the likes of banoffee pie and white chocolate and raspberry brulee. Rogue isn't aiming to push any boundaries but is just the kind of no-nonsense, reasonably priced local bistro everyone wants nearby, and is already proving popular with the discerning Newstead crowd.
