Rooftop Bar & Cinema

Alas, it's 101 Collins and not the Chrysler Building in your eyeline, but Rooftop Bar otherwise succeeds in giving Melbourne a wonderfully pleasurable cover version of the Brooklyn top-of-the-loft drinking experience. The production values are somewhat DIY: the standard-list cocktails are dashed off and the decor doesn't extend far beyond handwritten signage ('NO SHOTS'), a rotating but inevitably student-y art exhibition, and Astroturf. But who minds when the Bulmers is cold, the sun is shining and the mood is relaxed? In summer, the bar becomes an outdoor cinema, heavy on cult classics such as Casablanca and Zoolander.

Watching a movie with a drink in hand on the Curtin House rooftop on a warm summer night is something no self-respecting Melbourne barfly should miss.
