Modern Australian$$$

No wonder Malcolm Turnbull brought his staff here after he was deposed as leader of the Liberal Party. After 12 years, it's still the most comforting of restaurants - a place that takes you out of even the coldest Canberra night and wraps you in its embrace. The walls are softly baffled, the chairs padded, and carpet adds to the sense of hush. Throw in a fabulous wine selection and you'll understand why it's a popular choice for everything from romantic dinners to family functions. Chargrilled baby octopus with basil, marinated tomatoes and chilli-whipped fetta has been on the menu for years, and remains a firm favourite. Stuffed zucchini flowers get a textural lift with macadamia flecks in the firm ricotta stuffing, while lamb shoulder with grilled lamb loin, smoky eggplant and black tahini puree delivers a lovely cascade of flavours. Apple tarte tatin felt a little stewy, but it's rare for desserts to disappoint here.
