First you see a tyre-swing hanging from a big, handsome tree. Then, parked bikes, dogs lazing around, and you realise you're not in Kansas anymore. The Lads Club appears mirage-like in the industrial backstreets of Port Melbourne, a transformed warehouse with communal tables, proper coffee (Supreme) and a sense of fun. Breakfast might be thyme-infused tangy sauteed mushrooms on toast, or maybe smoky Indian spiced scrambled eggs (bigger appetites will love the full English, including black pud). Lunches feature baguettes and daily specials such as slow-cooked lamb. Expect a wait on Saturdays.
