Sardine

With only a handful of brightly coloured tables inside and several more outside, it's easy to see how this tiny cafe behind Armadale station got its name. The open kitchen turns out simple but classy dishes. Breakfast might be boiled eggs with soldiers and herb salt, or five-grain porridge with banana and slivers of toasted almond. At lunch, cauliflower soup scattered with grilled chorizo might beckon from a short list, or opt for an epic meaty-crunchy-creamy 'reuben-esque sandwich' layering corned beef and Russian dressing on toasted bread. A carefully made coffee with a house-made melting moment make a fine parting note.
