Shanghai Night

Chinese

This no-glitz institution in Sydney's Little Shanghai has been dishing up some of the city's best, and cheapest, dumplings since opening in the early '90s. Shanghai-style dumplings are the go, and northern Chinese favourites of xiao long bao (soup-filled dumplings) and pan-fried pork buns with shallots are the stars. Pork dominates the moreish fillings and is also the perfect partner to the fried handmade egg noddles with vegies, another Shanghai house speciality. (The menu is lengthy and extends well beyond dumplings and noodles, though.) Head up the back past packed laminate tables to see staff painstakingly stretch noodles and prepare dumplings. Such quality is mind-bogglingly cheap at less than $12.80 per serve.
