Silvas

Portuguese$$

Neatly divided into a takeaway (definitely Everyday Eats budget-friendly) and a proper dine-in, table-service section, Silvas is one of the stalwarts in Petersham's Little Portugal hub. The corner spot heaves most nights, with big groups feasting on skewers of meat and obligatory char-grilled chicken with piri piri sauce. Barbecued octopus has a moreish salty-vinegary marinade, while grilled salt cod is served with crushed baked potatoes and lathered with olive oil, garlic and lemon. Creme caramel is a little too fridge-cold, but a sweet end nonetheless. Some mains will blow the budget, but portions are generous and complimentary starters of bread and olives further help ensure sated appetites.
