Similan

Thai$$

The former Muay Thai restaurant has undergone a tropical transformation – it’s now named after the Similan Islands off Thailand’s southern coast. Gone are all references to kick-boxing; in their place are stylish lime-washed boards, distressed tables, marine-themed lightshades and an overwhelming sense of calm that’s a welcome respite from this otherwise grungy part of Pitt Street. Similan’s signature shake – pineapple blended with basil – is the tropics in a glass. A pot of lemongrass-scented mussels is pleasingly plentiful, while boat noodles swim in an aromatic broth. Add tofu triangles, coconut saffron rice and flaky chocolate roti and waddle out completely satisfied.
