Snow Pony

Modern Australian$$

This thriving Deepdene cafe is run by the talent behind Friends of Mine and Hawthorn’s Porgie & Mr Jones. You may spot a family resemblance in the design (industrial light fittings, Astroturfed courtyard) and extensive menu (with higher-welfare ingredients). Breakfast could be grainy toast topped with fresh herbs, Holy Goat cheese and silky scrambled eggs; lunch perhaps a crumbed Greenvale pork chop with potato, apple and radish salad. If you’re in the area, they do dinner on Friday and Saturday. But keep in mind that this is a cash-only venue in a strip devoid of ATMs.
