South of Johnston

Contemporary$$

This vast warehouse has been broken into workable spaces: a cosy lounge around a pot-belly stove; tables alongside a comfy banquette; a bar; and a covered courtyard. Streetside are a few tables plus a kitchen garden. Artworks cover almost every wall, and touches like an oversized terrarium housing an orchid epitomise the clever curation found throughout. The menu suits all-comers: porridge with stewed apple for earlybirds, corn fritters with poached eggs, smashed avocado, house-made relish and smoked salmon for weekend brunchers, and texture-perfect risotto with baby peas, chilli and prawns for late lunchers. It’s no coincidence that SoJo rhymes with mojo.
