Southpaw

$$

Southpaw has a slight identity problem, projecting a '90s techno-hippy vibe amidst the sombre brick and low ceilings of its former stable home. Anime pages wallpapering the bathrooms and a dragon add to the mix. Luckily there's no confusion with the menu, which is simple and solidly executed. Cauliflower croquettes in sage aioli are perfect for sharing over a cold draught, while the marinated capsicum is elegantly attired in garlic, goat's cheese and a tart onion compote. Weekend breakfast ranges from eggs poached just-so with a brick of potato and corn hash, to cornbread with maple syrup, bacon and fried eggs. A worthy local.
