Spicers Tamarind

Good Food hat15.5/20

Lovers of Thai food would be well advised to head up the Blackall Ranges - the rewards we promise, will be rich (and fragrant). Tamarind elevates Thai dining and frees it from the usual cliches, both in presentation of the food and the decor, which is thankfully devoid of Buddhas, incense or wait staff in traditional Thai costume. Meals are served in one of two connected pavilions surrounded by lush tropical gardens. Bring friends in order to try as many of Daniel Jarrett's dishes as possible, such as the yellow seafood curry; layered with flavour; subtle, sweet, hot and creamy and filled with generous chunks of bug, prawns and tender calamari. A rustic jungle curry with tender little pork dumplings, Thai vegetables, lime leaves and holy basil is hot, hot, hot, but under the steady burn is an explosion of complex flavours. Massaman curry of slow-braised beef with sweet potato, white radish, peanuts, pickled ginger and crispy shallots is worth the drive alone.
