Steakhouse$$$

The massive wooden sculpture of a fit young bull greets you at the front door. The waiter holds a large heavy wooden platter loaded with a dozen different cuts of steak. This is what Steer is about - great steak, great wine, great service. The room itself is a mix of natural wooden floors, concrete columns, modern art and black and red furniture on the ground floor of the Olsen Hotel. Take a seat at the communal table by the kitchen or a more secluded spot on the red banquette and admire the polished marrow bone cutlery holders. Start, perhaps, with a matzo ball soup - a hand-formed morsel of cracker and schmaltz (chicken fat) in a delicate chicken consomme, or a sweet, rich croquette of pickled lamb's tongue and sweetbreads. The steaks are among the best in town, kissed with the fiery grill, perfectly rested and served with a top range of house-made condiments. Dessert could be a great slice of New York-style baked cheesecake or pieces of some of America's finest artisan cheese.
