Surjit's

Restaurateur Surjit Gujral has two passions: Sydney's Indian restaurant scene (which he's been part of for some 27 years) and cricket. Over the years, his restaurants have proven magnets for big-name cricket players, many of whom have gifted the memorabilia decorating this Annandale outpost. The cricket paraphernalia doesn't dominate the smart-casual space, though, which charms with warm, softly spoken service, cloth-covered tables and ornate chairs adorned with little tinkling bells. Through a window at the back of the room diners can see a cook working the charcoal tandoor, making popular tikka dishes, lamb cutlets and naan. Also worth trying: Goan-style fish curry (matchli rasa meen) and that old fave, butter chicken.
