Japanese$$

Earthy tones, shimmering metallic walls and wooden pillars give Sushi Samurai a warm and welcoming aesthetic. It's cosy but not cramped and the staff are endearingly sweet. It's known for its banquets but the a la carte menu also has plenty of scope. Start with warm, salted edamame and the silken agedashi tofu that becomes pleasantly gelatinous in its broth. The sushi and sashimi platter is fresh and the wagyu steak, served on a sizzling plate, is deliciously tender. The dessert menu is also worth a look, with treats such as black sesame ice-cream and zenzai; glutinous rice balls with ice-cream.
