Japanese$$

With a doorway draped in Japanese fabric, this slate-coloured room tucked away beside William Street feels like a secret find for sushi and sake aficionados. After a swift flurry of small hands and neat bowing, suddenly the table is groaning with food. Nasudengaku is tender grilled eggplant with sweet miso, and gyoza filled with coarse pork mince are fine-skinned and crisp. There’s creative sushi and sashimi every which way, but the golden-shelled fried chicken karaage and the braised, brothy kurobuta pork, so tender the bones are edible, are the stuff of legend. The secret’s out - you’re welcome.
