Taste of Shanghai

Chinese$$

On the site of the old Shanghai Yangzhou, this thriving branch of the Taste of Shanghai franchise always has queues. Black-tiled walls, crowded tables and tiny stools give it a very mainland China feel, as does the predominantly Chinese crowd. Scrumptious spicy crab xiao long bao soupy dumplings are worth the wait alone, as is a smoky, spicy eggplant hotpot. The chilli tea-tree mushroom with shredded chicken in a hot wok could do with more heat, but stir-fried green beans in pork mince excel. The 45-page menu offers much for the adventurous - offal eaters take note.
