It's easy to see why Tea House on Burke is such a comforting cocoon: a spacious dining room, peaceful ambience and unfailingly polite, smooth service make for a highly enjoyable experience. Over a decade since opening, the (mostly) Cantonese menu is bedded down and confidently executed. An entree of fried garfish stuffed with diced carrot and celery is crisp and light; equally pleasing is the slinky rice noodle roll, filled with sliced celery and doused in a sweet soy sauce; and a main of battered prawns in a creamy wasabi sauce - curiously accompanied by sweet chilli sauce and fresh mango - is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Less thrilling may be a tender, soy-simmered duck that can lack the promised five-spice aromatics. Desserts generally tread the well-worn fritter path so, for something more, try the pan-fried red bean pancake that's boosted by fresh banana.
