Thainatown

Thai$$

Thainatown is the place to go for no frills and big thrills – the latter care of big Thai flavour hits. Check the blackboard for specials; gems may include the crunch of fried soft-shell crab on a bed of chilli-laced, peanut-sprinkled, shredded green papaya. Submerge the crab in the sauce pooling below the papaya for extra firepower. Chilli basil chicken is heard sizzling in the kitchen just seconds before being served, but it’s disappointingly light on basil and chilli. Cheap prices are reflected in portion sizes – just three prawns in tom yum – but the soup is a hat-trick of sweet, sour and heat.
