The Alex, as it’s known locally, serves up consistently good, well-priced meals with a frequently changing menu that means there’s something here for everyone. A chicken supreme is stuffed with pancetta and brie and topped with cranberry jus and crunchy flaked almonds: it’s delicious and satisfying,without being too much. Salt-and-pepper squid is very tender, and flat head moist and lemony. Pavlova with berry compote had a little too much going on, but is a great for sweet-tooths. Service in the past has been a little brusque, but now friendly seems to be the new frosty.
