American (US)

The B.East landed with an almighty roar at the restaurant end of Lygon Street. Part pub, part diner, all beast, a studiously grungy atmosphere pervades, perfect for downing pints and smashing burgers. Beef patties are made from organic Victorian rump, chuck and brisket and affirm it with tasty juiciness, and the pulled pork burger, with 12-hour shoulder and crackling, is fast approaching cult status. And if you don't order the spicy, crunchy buttermilk southern-fried chicken, you're a cotton-pickin' fool. Dessert comes in the form of sundaes and pecan pie, and shakes fill any remaining gaps. There's live music most nights.
