Offering simple food with a simply spectacular view, The Boat Shed might be hidden from the street, tucked behind the local swimming pool but that doesn't mean it's a well-kept secret. Its Maroochy River mouth frontage is unrivalled, making it a popular spot for a sunset drink. For a light meal there's the seafood-themed tapas menu. Try the Asian-style oysters with soy sauce, punchy ginger and lime. Or creamy arancini balls with a salty caper relish. Tuna carpaccio with avocado, capers, radish, cress and a white balsamic and olive oil emulsion is also a light, fresh start. While the menu features main dishes for almost all tastes, there's an understandable lean towards the ocean. Dive in and enjoy the simplicity of flavours of the fresh fish of the day, pan-fried and served with chips and a tangy but rich butter lemon sauce. A new chef was waiting in the wings as we went to press, so expect some changes.
