The Bunker

Modern Australian

It can indeed feel very bunker-like, packed elbow-to-elbow inside this ever-buzzing, compact sandstone cafe, although it's easy to find serenity if you score a seat at the cheap-chic footpath tables. A primary draw is the Campos coffee, extracted beautifully, including a single-origin special, maybe a chocolate-citrus Papua New Guinea. The food is like gourmet fare for English backpackers. House-made crumpets are popular at breakfast, while more involved specials often include a hearty beef mince on toast with poached egg and tomato relish. Simple lunches include the lamb 'dawg' with beetroot relish, feta and fresh mint on sourdough and a sanga of poached chicken, thin-sliced red onion and coriander.
