She's the little sister to top-tier Urbane next door, but The Euro is no bridesmaid brasserie. Under the confident direction of head chef Kym Machin, Urbane has forged its own style that makes it more than worthy of a visit. The long, narrow, Arkhefield-designed dining room is all matte wood and copper, a warm but chic cocoon navigated by cool, instinctive staff. Ricotta and truffle ravioli with spanner crab on a sumptuous pea veloute is a stunning harmony of flavour and texture, as beautiful to eat as to admire; blue-eye is poached in olive oil, the skin rubbed with anchovy and crisped, a sweet sauce soubise tempering the salt. A lamb cutlet is deeply caramelised on one side and untouched on the other, rendering the meat fully flavoured and tender, with an accompanying sweet-and-savoury confit shallots, garlic puree and a pumpkin and manchego pithivier. A marvellous caramelised, buttery apple tarte tatin with creme anglaise should be a set text for aspiring pastry chefs. As we went to press, senior chef Brenden Gradidge was covering the head chef position after Kym Machin's departure but stay tuned.
