Grain Store glints with international-hotel polish, but the real sparkle is that under-$30 eaters can taste the high life. White marble bar tops, blondwood tabletops and floors, and white window furnishings make the room a canvas for the food. Giant pumpkins become art, propped as they are on the bar, along with big baguettes – maybe filled with hand-flaked salmon and potato patties – and the day’s salad that comes with any of the rolls. At breakfast (portobello mushrooms and potato-and-oozy-raclette-roesti) and at lunch (beetroot carpaccio, a tower of leaves punctuated with candied walnuts), the food shines.
