The Grand Tofu Flemington

Malaysian

The Grand Tofu’s neat Flemington shop may be small, but its menu has enough dishes to fill a hawker centre twice over. On the walls, scenes of old and new Malaysia gaze down at expats eating quietly. Sidle up to the counter to check out the yong tofu, which include vegetables stuffed with fish paste, and crisp prawn dumplings. Try them in rich curry soup atop a tangle of noodles. Hawker classics are another speciality, like the excellent Ipoh combination hor fun: flat rice noodles with authentic smoky char nestling under a thick egg gravy, dotted with squid, chicken and more. And one of the area’s finer laksas. Grand it certainly is.
