The Henson

Contemporary$$

Some pubs don’t start cranking until double digits, but this renovated local hero is packed by 6pm. It’s the family-friendly factor: it’s off the charts here. But the fact there’s a ball pit doesn’t mean the menu is all schnitty and chips. Rather, there’s the slow-build heat of gutsy smoked corn, celeriac and habanero soup, and the knockout ‘knuckle sandwich’ (cousin, perhaps, to the famous reuben) with wagyu brisket, fennel slaw, swiss cheese and smoky mayo. If the duck shepherd’s pie is under-seasoned, a shelf full of oomph-options includes flavoured salts and hot sauces. Locally brewed beer? Got that, too.
