The Lakes Hotel

The exterior of the Lakes Hotel is pure art deco Sydney but in the beer garden it's a little bit of Bali, where you sit on cushions in an outdoor pavilion and feast on chicken and prawn spring rolls, chicken schnitzel with chips and steak with mash and veg. The service is excellent, there's a good wine list - and the prices are reasonable. The spring rolls were crisp and flavoursome without being greasy and the schnitzel came with tasty gravy. The sirloin steak was a disappointment, generous - we couldn't get through it - but far too fatty.
