The Last Jar

Irish

Outwardly austere, this Irish pub is fireplace warm and friendly inside. While the traditional Irish fare that’s here is rarely seen, familiar Guinness is everywhere: on tap – along with four other beers and great local bottled brews – and in the food. A plump salt ling potato cake comes with a Guinness-battered egg, oozing yellow yolk. Some steaks might blow the bank: opt for a bowl of Irish stew, heaped with tender, slow-braised Gippsland lamb, halves of dutch cream potatoes and whole carrots. Dessert might include fruity ‘porter’ cake, doused in Guinness, chocolate sauce and a scoop of house-made Guinness ice-cream.
