Pub grub is a competitive battleground these days but the Local Taphouse is a champ. The food fills a better-than-supporting role to the myriad beers on offer, ranging from IPA to stout and all shades in between (there are 20 on tap alone). The downstairs bar menu is for cheap eaters, covering pub staples such as chicken parmigiana (yes, real chicken breast) and more adventurous options such as mussels in a spicy Spanish-style sauce with grilled bread. There are a couple of vegetarian choices (vegie burger with stuffed and crumbed eggplant) and the well-drilled staff will be only too happy to suggest matching beers.
